When it comes to SEO for Google, ranking high in Google’s search results can have a phenomenal impact on the success of your business.

You can either engage the expertise of a Search Engine Optimization company or, if you have the time, there are some changes you can make to your website yourself.

Step 1: Keyword Research

What keywords do you think your customers would type in to search for your products or services?

A keyword can be one term (e.g. “optimization”), but multiple keywords or keyword phrases are usually preferred because they are more specific and more likely to be what your customers are looking for.

Write down as many as you can think of. Brainstorm with your team.

Think of alternate words. Consider geographical phrases if they are important to your customer (e.g. “house cleaning Seattle”).

Also, get some ideas from your rivals’ websites. Try to make a list of 20-30 keyword phrases.

Choose the two keyword phrases you think would be searched for the most when it comes to SEO for Google.

But also remember, the greater competition there is certainly for a keyword, the harder it is to accomplish top rankings.

If you want to rank high in Google for the keyword “insurance”, you will have a tough job ahead of you.

So try your very best to decide two keywords that will be the most highly relevant to your business website, but at the same time keywords that aren’t vague nor competitive.

It’s smart to have two or three 3 words in each word (e.g. “wedding catering services”)

Once you’ve found your two best keywords, the next phase demonstrates how to make some advancements to your home page.

Step 2: Web Copy

Web copy refers to all the words or text on your website.

Because content is king in the world of search engines, your keyword phrases need to be placed strategically on your web page to convince Google that your content is highly relevant to those keywords. The more prominent they are, the better.

Here are ways to increase each keyword’s prominence when it comes to SEO for Google:

• Place your keywords in headings, ideally at the start of the text;

• Include keywords near the top of the website page;

• Us Headings such as H₁, H₂, H₃ or bold keywords where appropriate;

• Rather than having a web link to another web page that says “Just click here to learn more “, reword it to add your keywords,

An important idea is to likewise incorporate these keywords in your HTML “title tag”.

Use your articles’ management system to make these changes yourself, or simply ask your web designer to do it if you’re doubtful on how to do so or where to even start.

Once you’ve fine-tuned your website, consider adding new content, such as precise descriptions of what you offer, FAQs and informative articles about your products and services.

(In the event that you don’t want to create these yourself, they could be located free of charge on the internet).

It’s also good to note that SE’s (Search engines) can only just read the content material, not pictures.

Often web designers embed words in images to look better for website visitors or use Display for animation.

But this is a significant impediment to search engines also as the bots cannot read the image but the details text is clearly readable such as location tags for local business or keywords on the Alt text for the subject.

Step 3: Linking

Each link from another website to your website (not from your website) is considered by search engines as a vote of popularity for your business and will improve your rankings. This is called back linking.

But it is the quality, not quantity, of the links that is crucial. The other websites should be relevant to your industry, and preferably highly regarded themselves.

Ten quality links count for more than 500 links from terrible websites. In the same way, your personal business network can have a significant impact on the success of your business, so to the online network you build on the internet.

Brainstorm all the relevant websites that could link to you, such as non-competing companies, and industry bodies and organizations.

Write a friendly email to each describing the benefit their visitors would get in knowing about your business, and request them to create a link to your website.

Most people will not respond first time round, so a follow-up phone call or email is usually required.

How do I monitor my results?

Monitor your rankings in Google over the next few months by typing your chosen keywords into the search, and recording your ranking.

Also look at your hosting analytics or use Google Search Console to understand what search terms your visitors are using to find your website.

The above-mentioned process can be also repeated for every web page of your website.

Remember to keep updating your content, and continually boost the quantity of links to your website.

While you see your rankings climb, you should see a corresponding increase in web traffic and a substantial increase in sales inquiries

  • My husband and I wanted a website for our business. After two previously failed attempts from other web designers, we had nothing but a Facebook page. We were very reluctant to go ahead with searching for another web design company after our previous experience. It wasn't until Top Level Traffic was recommended to us from a friend, we thought we would give it one last chance, third time lucky sort of thing. They managed to surpass our expectations, with extremely competitive prices along with superior after-care. Thank you Chloe and David.
