With our recent installation of the Cyber Threat Real-Time Attack Map on our sister company’s website here, I wanted to share with you some tips to avoid someone hacking your website.
If you are accessing your business website remotely, you may wish to address your facilitating supplier to ensure they have a system in place to guarantee your information security, ask what systems they have in place and double check you are protected from all types of threats.
As you can see using our live map daily cyberattacks are a real thing, with a hacker attack averaging every 39 seconds, not to mention 43% of cyberattacks only target small businesses. The average cost of a data breach in 2020 surpassed 150million (As we predicted).
So as you can see protecting your business should be the top priority, I have written some basic steps to make it harder when it comes to someone hacking your website:
Basic Security Steps
Ensure the majority of the servers are running the most recent security patches along with releases. Keep running virus, malware and rootkit protection on the entirety of your gadgets and servers to protect your website for hackers.
Instruct and train your staff in web security also is another way to prevent someone hacking your website, there are some great courses out there, we offer off-site support, or staff website or business security enhancement awareness education ourselves as standard with all our business packages.
Site Safety
We are as of now utilizing SSL on all our sites to keep our correspondences secure and private. All our hosting plans come with SSL as standard, we do not charge extra per year for each SSL, they are FREE with every hosting or website package.
Does your site have SSL?
On the off chance that your site’s URL does not begin with https, you don’t have SSL security. This implies the information transmitted to and from the site (like passwords or customer card details) are decoded or in the worst case easily accessed by hackers.

In the event that you need to include an SSL authentication on your business webpage or website, you may contact our team here, or start a live chat in the bottom right of this post. We are always glad to help set up a protection system or SSL to suit your small business.
Online Vigilance
It would also be ideal if you make sure to remain cautious when surfing online following the similar practice above but as a visitor, this helps tremendously when trying to avoid someone hacking your website as all cookies lead back to whatever you do, in this case, your website.
Look for the important padlock along with “S” in https, this represents secure. Check the sites you are visiting are protected and whatever you do, please don’t forget to log out once you have finished.
Spam and Phishing messages are on the ascent once more, with a significant number of them conveying malicious attachments or links. It is smarter to not open messages from individuals you don’t know or that you were not anticipating in the first place.
Simply ignore emails from senders you do not know personally unless you are sure you know the sender along with having checked it is not a pushing scam, for more information on how to check this please see our computer repair blog here
System Security
The most recent worldwide cyberattack took advantage of older vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows Operating System, of which newer security updates had been discontinued.
Hence, another safety step you could take is to stay up to date with the latest operating system along with making sure you have the latest operating system along with antivirus, malware, virus or rootkit protection database updates.
Introduce or keep your antivirus, malware, virus or rootkit database updated, along with making a regular backup of your basic records or documents, which brings me to my next point.
Backup Backup Backup
Sadly, regardless of what number of steps we may take, it is preposterous to expect to be thoroughly secure, we are simply plugging holes on a sinking ship, as we find one way to stop hackers they will find another vulnerability. It’s a lot like cat and mouse, except in the virtual sense.

As a last resort, we prompt that you frequently back up your basic archives or documents to combat this.
I suggest you back up your website in multiple places such as in the cloud, on an external hard drive etc so if one fails you always have the other to fall back on, so when you get hacked, (I say when because anyone who owns a website has at some point been hacked) you will be able to have your site back up and running with a click of a button.
